Solange Urdang OBE
Solange Urdang OBE is a pioneering force in diversifying performing arts training in the UK, recognised with an OBE in 2024 for her exceptional contributions to dance and musical theatre. With deep roots in theatre and activism, she trained at the Urdang Academy and The High School of Performing Arts in New York before transitioning from a successful performance career to education, leadership, and advocacy.
As CEO of Urdang Academy (1991–2022), she transformed it into one of the UK’s most prestigious vocational colleges, expanding its reach and championing inclusivity in the arts. Her leadership was instrumental in relocating the academy to the historic Old Finsbury Town Hall, making world-class training more accessible to aspiring performers from diverse backgrounds. She has been a tireless advocate for grassroots initiatives, ensuring underrepresented voices have access to top-tier training and industry opportunities.
Now CEO of The Global Performing Arts Alliance, Solange continues to influence the industry as a speaker, mentor, and international advisor. She co-founded The Black British Theatre Awards and The Black Theatre & Film Directory, founded Link Artists Agency, and serves as a trustee and patron of several arts organisations.
A strong advocate for arts education, she actively endorses STAGESCHOOL by RSL Awards, championing the Street & Commercial Syllabus and Performance Awards. Through this work, she continues to drive forward accessible, high-quality training opportunities, shaping the future of performing arts education in the UK and beyond.
